Kan Trakulhoon has been appointed as the president of Siam Cement Plc (SCC) since January 1, 2006, almost 29 years after joining Thailand’s biggest industrial conglomerate right after graduation.
Kan, 53, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Gold Medal, First-Class Honors) from Chulalongkorn University and Master’s Degrees in Engineering and Business Management from Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. He also completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard University, USA.

Siam Cement Plc (SCC), Thailand’s biggest industrial conglomerate, yesterday said it has returned from a quarterly loss in the last quarter of last year to record a net profit of almost 5.19 billion baht from the operations during this year’s first quarter.
Earlier this year, SCC reported a net loss of 3.48 billion baht for its operations during the fourth quarter last year, mainly due to inventory losses worth about 5.0 billion baht mostly from chemicals business.

Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday said his government plans to host the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit with its six dialogue partners in June.

Thailand’s four leading banks similarly posted falls in net profit during the first quarter of this year, ranging from 13.5 to 39 percent, due to global economic crisis and low income.
Bangkok Bank (BBL), the country’s biggest lender with 1.68 trillion baht of assets, yesterday reported a 13.5 percent fall in the quarterly net profit to nearly 4.87 billion baht from 5.63 billion baht during the first quarter last year.
