Sino-Thai wins 2nd contract of mass transit bid for B15.3 bln

Thailand’s third biggest builder, Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Plc (STECON) on Thursday won a tender to build a northwestern part of  the “Purple Line” mass transit project with the lowest bid of 15.32 billion baht.
According to Chaisit Gururatana, assistant governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) who is the chairman of the bidding committee, STECON’s bid for the 11-kilometre rail system defeated the closest contenders, the country’s second biggest builder Ch Karnchang Plc which offered 15.6 billion baht and the biggest builder Italian-Thai Development Plc which offered …

CPF plans to expand to Ukraine and other Eastern European countries

Newly opened CPF's feed mill in Russia
Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc (CPF), Thailand’s leading agro-industrial and food conglomerate, has planned to expand its investment to Ukraine and other Eastern European countries after opening a feed mill in Russia last month.
Adirek Sripratak, CPF’s president and chief executive officer, however did not elaborate on the plan to invest more in the region but confirmed that the investment in Russia is a very important step for the company.

Thai PM urges ASEAN, S.Korea to cooperate toward prosperity

Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday urged government leaders and business people of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and South Korea to cooperate in a bid to overcome the current global financial crisis and other challenges toward Asia’s prosperity.
In his address to the participants of the ASEAN-Korea CEO Summit on Jeju Island, South Korea, the Thai prime minister, on behalf of ASEAN chair, said many influences which have shaped globalization are now making the world become more competitive and move at a much quicker pace.
