The Chiang Mai Zoo’s new aquarium, sporting the world’s longest viewing tunnels has reopened after a temporary closure for three weeks to fix the water purifying system, reported the Thai News Agency (TNA).

Both Thai and foreign visitors at the new aquarium in the northern province of Chiang Mai were again excited to see over 8,000 living aquatic creatures and more than 250 species of fresh water and salt water life. The aquarium closed the day after it officially October 26 opening because of some problems with the water purifying system.

Zoological Park Organization (ZPO) director Sophon Dumnui told TNA that ZPO expects to attract at least 800,000 visitors each year.

The new high-profile aquarium is the joint venture between the ZPO and a private company, involving an investment of 600 million baht, to become Southeast Asia’s largest.
