Thai PM urges ASEAN, S.Korea to cooperate toward prosperity

Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday urged government leaders and business people of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and South Korea to cooperate in a bid to overcome the current global financial crisis and other challenges toward Asia’s prosperity.
In his address to the participants of the ASEAN-Korea CEO Summit on Jeju Island, South Korea, the Thai prime minister, on behalf of ASEAN chair, said many influences which have shaped globalization are now making the world become more competitive and move at a much quicker pace.

ASEAN summit with dialogue partners planned for June

Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday said his government plans to host the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit with its six dialogue partners in June.
During his weekly television address, the Thai premier said the three-day summit, which had earlier been held in the eastern resort of Pattaya but cancelled on April 11 after anti-government protesters stormed the hotel venue, will be rescheduled for June.

Thailand signs deal to borrow $655 mln from JICA for rail project

Thailand yesterday signed an agreement to borrow about 63 billion yen ($655 million) from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in an effort to finance the Red Line rail project, linking upper Bangkok to Rangsit in Pathum Thani province.

Pattaya picked as venue for ASEAN+3 and ASEAN+6 in April

Pattaya has been picked as the venue for two meetings for Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) leaders and their dialogue partners during April 10-12.
Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Kasit Piromya recently announced that the ministry had decided to choose the eastern resort in Chonburi Province as the venue for the 14th ASEAN Summit with dialogue partners, also known as ASEAN+3 (China, South Korea and Japan) and ASEAN+6 (China, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and India) meetings.

Abhisit to speak on democracy at Oxford University today

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva is scheduled to today give a lecture on democracy at St John’s College, Oxford University, as a part of his activities during a three-day official visit to Britain.
