Dr.Apichai Boontherawara has joined the Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Bank) as the bank’s president since July 1, 2006.
Before joining the EXIM Bank, Dr.Apichai, with 12-year experiences in various fields of the finance and banking sectors, was the managing director of the Asset Management Corporation (AMC) under Thailand’s Ministry of Finance. Earlier, he had been the first Thai general manager of Rabobank Nederland’s Thailand Representative Office for six years.
Dr.Apichai also had six years of experiences in investment banking as the head of the
Investment Banking Department of Nava Vickers Ballas Securities and SCF Finance &
Securities in Bangkok.
Dr.Apichai received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics with honors from Thammasat University in Bangkok, and then earned a Master’s degree (English-language program) from the same university, under the Bank of Thailand’s scholarship.
Dr. Apichai subsequently received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Washington, USA, under the Japan Foundation’s scholarship.
In addition to his professional commitment, Dr. Apichai has also made social contributions by having served as an advisor to the Senate Committee on Finance, Banking, and Financial Institutions, a member of Audit Committee for the Office of Agricultural Futures Trading Commission (AFTC), a Board member and treasurer of the Netherlands-Thai Chamber of Commerce (NTCC), and an executive committee Member of Lions Club of Bangkok Metropolitan.
Dr. Apichai has been decorated with Member (Fifth Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand (Benjamaporn Mongkutthai) and awarded member of the Hall of Fame for Outstanding Alumni of Thammasat University in 2005.
On his four-year term, Dr. Apichai is expected to be the EXIM Bank president till June 30 next year.
