SET appoints Veerathai as new chief strategy officer
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has appointed Dr.Veerathai Santiprabhob as new chief strategy officer, as well as the executive director of its Capital Market Research Institute, from January 26 onward.
The Thai bourse yesterday announced that Dr.Veerathai, former executive vice president for strategic planning at Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) — Thailand’s third largest bank, will be in charge of Corporate Strategy and Development Division of the Thai bourse, overseeing business policies for SET and developing strategic plans.
He will also head the Capital Market Research Institute, which will support the works of the Capital Market Development Committee toward the development of SET to become a key player in Thailand’s capital market development.
After receiving both Master’s and Doctor’s degrees in economics from Harvard University, Dr.Veerathai returned to Thailand to start his career as an economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for one year before returning to his homeland and joined the Ministry of Finance.
At the ministry, he finally became the co-director of Policy Research Institute, the Fiscal Policy Office, before joining the Siam Commercial Bank in 2000.
Dr.Veerathai graduated from Thammasat University in Bangkok with first-class honours in economics when he was only 18.5 years old and received a scholarship from Anandhamahidol Foundation to pursue his study at Harvard, and finally received the doctor of philosophy in economics in 1994 while he was 24 years olds.
